Joshua Davis (www.praystation.com) is my favorite interactive designer. I’m definitely not alone, but his process and aesthetic are what I consider to be truly contemporary. I was introduced to him by my professor Carla Diana (www.carladiana.com www.repercussion.org) during a class last year. His work generally takes incredibly complex and disparate amounts of data and represents them visually, beautifully. You can see his work being echoed in major broadcast design and graphic firms all over the world. His work is a blend of psychedlic and machinic aesthetics, created through complex mathematical algorithims and displayed randomly, yet crafted through a logic of his design sense. He’s exhibited at MoMA, Tate Modern and many others. Check out his work.
His current project is set of prints for BMW inspired by the new Z4 sport coupe (www.z4byjd.com). They are all unique prints, hand selected by JD, and printed by his in-studio printer. There are literally tens of thousands of layers of vector shapes and colors that create a rich, deep image.
If anyone knows of any other similar artists working with the visualization of information, holla.
